Beta-nicotinamide mononucleotide (ß-NMN) is a nucleotide derived from ribose and nicotinamide. It is a derivative of niacin (vitamin B3) and can be used by human enzymes to synthesise NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide).
NAD+ plays an essential role in various metabolic pathways, where it is mostly used as an oxidant. Particularly relevant is its energy-rich form, NADH, which is needed for the generation of ATP. Since ß-NMN is a cofactor in processes in the mitochondria, for the sirtuins (an enzyme group) and for PARP - an enzyme involved in the repair of DNA breaks - it has been investigated in various studies for its potential neuroprotective effect¹ and anti-ageing effect².
In the diet, ß-NMN is found mainly in fruits and vegetables such as broccoli, white cabbage, cucumbers and avocados.

Ascorbic acid is an organic acid that can exist in four different forms. However, of these forms, only L-ascorbic acid is biologically active. L-ascorbic acid and its derivatives with the same effect are grouped together under the name vitamin C. Because vitamin C is easily oxidised, it acts as an antioxidant or radical scavenger in the organism. It is also an indispensable coenzyme in the process of biosynthesis of collagen.
Since collagen occurs primarily in connective tissue, but also in practically all other human and animal cells, a vitamin C deficiency can lead to scurvy, whereby on the one hand the connective tissue is affected and on the other hand symptoms such as exhaustion and fatigue can occur.
In food, vitamin C is mainly found in fruit and vegetables. Especially citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons and grapefruits usually contain a lot of vitamin C. Among vegetables, kale, red cabbage, white cabbage and sauerkraut in particular have a high vitamin C content.
